You will be able to
- Work confidently in the Linux terminal and with Git
- Containerise apps with Docker and Compose
- Build CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions
- Use core AWS services safely within the free tier
- Write infrastructure as code with Terraform
- Run apps on Kubernetes and monitor them

Lessons
Module 1
Developer foundations
Terminal, Git and networking.
Linux command line essentials
Learn the everyday Linux commands: navigating, searching logs with grep and pipes, permissions, processes and a first shell script. Every server, container and CI job you meet later runs on this.
Git and GitHub: the team workflow
Learn the Git workflow used by real teams: commits, branches, pull requests, merge conflicts and safe undo. It is the starting point of every CI/CD pipeline and a common interview topic.
Networking for developers: DNS, IPs, ports and TLS
Understand what happens between typing a URL and seeing a page: DNS, IP addresses, ports, TLS and firewalls. Learn to tell 'connection refused' from 'timed out' and fix the usual deployment network bugs.
Module 2
Containers and pipelines
Docker, Compose and CI/CD.
Docker: images and containers
Package an app into a Docker image and run it as a container. Learn layers and caching, port mapping, environment variables, volumes, multi-stage builds and registries, plus the commands for logs and debugging.
Docker Compose for multi-service apps
Run an API, a PostgreSQL database and Redis together with one command. Learn Compose files, service-name networking, healthchecks, volumes and `.env` secrets, plus how Compose differs from production setups.
CI/CD with GitHub Actions
Set up a pipeline that tests your code on every push and builds a Docker image when tests pass. You will write a real GitHub Actions workflow, read its logs and fix a failing run.
Module 3
Cloud
Cloud providers, AWS core services, serverless, IaC and Kubernetes.
Cloud fundamentals: AWS, Azure and Google Cloud
Learn what the cloud really is, the handful of building blocks every provider offers, and how AWS, Azure and Google Cloud name them. You will be able to read any provider's service list without feeling lost.
AWS core services: IAM, EC2, S3, RDS and Lambda
Create an AWS account safely, then use the five services behind most applications: IAM for permissions, S3 for files, EC2 for servers, RDS for databases and Lambda for functions. Each step ends with cleanup so you do not pay for leftovers.
Serverless applications
Build and deploy a small serverless API on AWS Lambda with the SAM CLI: write the handler, test it locally, deploy, read logs and clean up. Learn cold starts, statelessness and when serverless is the wrong choice.
Infrastructure as code with Terraform
Learn Terraform hands-on: the init, plan, apply, destroy loop with a free local example, then a real S3 bucket on AWS with variables and outputs. Understand state, drift and how to read a plan safely.
Kubernetes basics
Run a local Kubernetes cluster with kind, deploy a web app with a Deployment and Service, watch self-healing, scale, do a rolling update and rollback, and learn the kubectl commands used to debug.
Cloud costs, free tiers and avoiding surprise bills
Understand how cloud billing works, what free tiers really include, the common ways beginners get surprise bills, and a day-one routine of budgets, alerts, clean-up and key safety. Includes how real teams lower costs.
Module 4
Running in production
Monitoring, reliability, AI in ops and a project.
Monitoring, logs and alerts
Add structured logs, Prometheus metrics and an alert rule to a FastAPI service, run Prometheus and Grafana with Docker Compose, and learn the golden signals, percentiles and how to write alerts people will trust.
Reliability: SLOs, incidents and postmortems
Learn the language of reliability: SLIs, SLOs, SLAs and error budgets, how to run an incident calmly, and how to write blameless postmortems that lead to real fixes. Includes worked numbers and interview angles.
AI in DevOps and platform engineering
See where AI helps in DevOps (explaining errors, drafting config, summarising incidents), where it is risky (invented flags, unsafe defaults, leaked secrets) and the habits that keep you safe, with reusable prompts.
Project: deploy a full-stack app with CI/CD
Deploy the Brew & Bean full-stack app end to end: tests, Docker images, GitHub Container Registry, a GitHub Actions pipeline that deploys over SSH to your own server, HTTPS with Caddy, health checks and rollback.
